What is the whole deal with Christianity? Why would anyone become a Christian? What is it all about, really? In general most people don't like marketers who market their product as something it isn't or only reveal a half truth about it. Therefore it can be imagined that a non-Christian, would want Christian's to be straight with him/her about what they believe in. In general, people wouldn't want to sign up for something and then find out later what the real implications are of being a Christian – what it really is all about. Considering this, I will take my given liberty, to take a shot laying out the gospel in a way which is hopefully simple to understand.
It is however, in my opinion, a lot better to read the entire bible. However I understand that the threshold to do so, might be a bit high – that book does have more than a thousand pages. Anyways, I hope this writing will make you a bit curious.
According to the bible, earth has been created by a supreme being with a plan. It is not sure how long earth has been around. According to census scientific research the age must be around 4.54 billion years. After creating earth, that supreme being, aka God, created men. Men was given the authority over the earth and all living things on it. God and men were in a good relationship; all was good. Besides all creation, God put some special tree, called “The tree of the knowledge of good and evil” from which men was not allowed to eat the fruit from. And if you did anyway, you'd die. That was the only thing which God had forbidden. Man and woman were all good but just couldn't stop looking at that special tree. They were curious and wanted to know what's the fuss about that tree. One day, Satan shows up in the form of a snake, and tells them that God was actually lying. Satan told Adam and Eve that you won't die after eating the fruit, in the contrary, you'd become like God, knowing good and evil!
Then, men chose to believe this stranger snake over the good God, eating the forbidden fruit and.... BAM! That simple stupendous act has gotten us in the world we are living in today. Men betrayed God and shattered the relationship we had with our creator. Because we weren't satisfied with God alone and everything He had given us, God removed Himself from us, and kept at a distance. And all the sudden, besides good, we knew evil. Fear, shame, anger, greed, hatred, all the nasty human nature features we all know too well, came into the fabric of our lives. And the more time passed by, the more those features intertwined in humanity, destroying our earth and our beautiful self’s. It can be assumed that the reason the human species are not yet extinct, is because God is still here. The book says that God is love. And wouldn't you agree: it is love that holds human beings together. If there were no love, we'd probably all be super extinct.
When men chose to possibility becoming like God, over the awesome relationship we had with God, everything fell apart. However, God, in all His goodness, chose to give us a way out. He came up with a rescue mission – giving the human species another chance of redemption. The book tells us that God consists out of three beings: the Father, the Holy Spirit and the Son. The only way for us to be able to have our relationship with God restored – back the way it used to be - was for Himself to die for us. Because there is nothing humans can possibly do to make the shattered relationship right. He has sent the Son to earth to die in our place, if we would accept His offer. It can be illustrated as God throwing a life line, in which it is up to us to grab that and be saved. I mentioned the word saved, because according to the book, God is one day going to completely remove Himself from those who have not chosen Him. If God is love, than absence of God equals absence of love, which could be rather well defined as hell, don't you think?
Now here's the deal. When God created men, everything was all good. However, we humans were in a sense, in God's captivity. In a sense we weren't free – as being independent from God. When all was good, we were in complete dependence of God. When we chose to know how it is to be like God, we chose for independence. Viva la libertà ! (long live freedom). We don't need God; we don't need a master; we don't need to be subjects! We want to be God; we want to be on the top of the universe! So, we started doing things our own way. First, using a lot of God's principles, which made use very successful. However, the trend of time shows us that we are getting rid of every Godly (biblical) principle. We are on the road of total emancipation from God.
It can easily be considered as pretty freaking amazing, what the human species have cumulative been able to establish on earth. Aren't we pretty amazing? We figured things out. We know how our earth and our human psychological makeup works, and we successfully use it to our advantage. However, it can be assumed that men's perception of their achievements, holds an enormous illusion and that they are actually not that amazing. As stated earlier, God has never pulled Himself away from humanity entirely; He's always been here. Rather than looking at men's achievements, as a result from God's existence and His actions, the human species are not yet extinct. Besides the assumption that God has never pulled away, two thousand years ago, the Son aka Jesus Christ, came to earth to bring the restitution offer, died, rose again and switched place with the Holy Spirit who is now on earth, living inside those who accepted the offer.
Clarifying the offer based on biblical scriptures, the restitution offer is made to all human beings personally and stands as long as the human is alive on earth... or mars, or any other planetary body or space for that matter. In addition, besides death there is no power which can make the offer invalid. Moreover, the offer is non-negotiable and the contents of the offer are as following: by acceptance of the offer, on the one hand of the contract, the offeror will make things like it were in the beginning of mankind. There will only be good and no evil. The former relationship God had with mankind will be fully restored. On the other hand of the contract, the offeree shall do the following by accepting the offer: the offeree shall acknowledge he has sinned, ask forgiveness and believe that Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth to die for those sins, conquered death and rose again. That is the only demand required.
Suppose that everyone would believe the consequences of not accepting that offer, then everyone would probably be a Christian. I assume a general reason not many people believe is that we don't see God hanging around. And we don't see that life as we perceive it is somewhat an 'illusion'. It can be assumed that God stays in the background so that we may freely choose without any pressures that the consequences bare. Biblical scriptures teaches that it is not hard to believe in God. The only thing a human needs to do is seek Him. Moreover, in current times, science has pointed out evidence supporting the idea of the likelihood a supreme creator exists, is highly probable. If men have the desire in his heart for a world where there is no evil, and is willing to reach out to his creator, He will reveal Himself to him.
Trying to simplify the matter, let's presume that everything here in this writing mentioned about God is true. Would you be willing to acknowledge you have done wrong, evil and undesirable things and ask forgiveness for those. And then turning around and start doing good things and for eternally submit to Him, trusting that He has the best intentions with you in the future? If yes, than grab hold of that life-line. If not, than I would like to encourage you to tell God what your objections are – shout it out if you feel that works. I believe you don't have to be afraid of God, because like it or not, He is in the upper hand of this deal. He knows He is good and that He loves you and that He wants to have a fully restored relationship with you. And he is more than willing to listen to all of your concerns and answer all of your burning questions, for God is telling mankind in Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,”.
For instance, you might have questions like why you or that person you love had to go through so much hassles in life. Or ask Him why there are so many natural disasters, depleting the underprivileged. Ask Him why He doesn't make His existence obvious. Genuinely ask Him whatever is on your heart and He will answer you and He will try to win your heart. Not because we're so great, but because we are His creations worthy to be saved.
